Can you tell us a bit about yourself?!
My name is Ravian van Beele, better known as Ravian Derrière. I’m 29 years young and I live in the, normally so energetic, city of Amsterdam. I was born in Zeist and for a while I was raised in the Bijlmer (area in Amsterdam)
When did you start making art?
My parents are both very creative, my dad paints as well so I think I don’t take after a stranger. But it really started when I took a graffiti workshop in the first year of middle school. The teacher who gave that workshop at the time saw potential in me and kept me under his wing. By the time I was thirteen I was graffitiing walls with guys twice my age, those experiences will always stick with me and were very educational. After a while you naturally start trying different things and so I quickly found out that making paintings was fun as well. My personal style of painting is also what kickstarted my career as an artist.
What is it about the booty?
Well, a couple of years ago I was painting at my father’s place and we were just talking about things that would be fun to paint. The conversation went on and at one point we were talking about derrieres and I started painting them. The rest is history. The concept got booming really quick and I quickly got the nickname “billenman”, which means ass-man. It fits my style of painting perfectly and I myself enjoy those beautiful round forms as well. I think I will never get rid of the booty, what an insanely great job haha.
What are the bootylicious future plans for Ravian Derriere?
Hopefully I can keep doing what I’m doing! The world is very big and there are still so many people and places I can introduce my work to. I once said in an interview that my goal is to have a painting of mine on the wall in every single household and I stand by those words!
